Both Newcastle United and Aston Villa face a tough season ahead in the Championship and a striker swap could suit both sides.
Aston Villa’s Rudy Gestede would be the perfect acquisition for Newcastle
Newcastle United have already been extremely active in the summer transfer window, bringing in Matt Ritchie, Dwight Gayle and Matz Sels.
Optimism is running high on Tyneside, with The Newcastle Chronicle claiming that manager Rafa Benitez is far from finished with his recruitment drive.
While many pundits are predicting a defender will be next on Rafa’s shopping list, there is still need for improvement in forward areas, with the likes of Aleksandar Mitrovic and Emmanuel Riviere failing to live up to expectations in their time at St James’ Park.
Gestede has struggled in his time at Villa
A fantastic option for the Magpies would be Aston Villa’s powerful striker Rudy Gestede.
The 27-year-old struggled last term in a Villa team that did not play to his strengths and he scored just five Premier League goals as a consequence. His Championship pedigree is beyond question, however, with an impressive record of 33 goals in 66 league games during his time at Blackburn Rovers.
He has supreme aerial ability, and unfortunately for him, he played in a Villa side who rarely put crosses into the box, hence rendering him fairly ineffective.
Gestede would be the perfect partner for Newcastle’s new signing Dwight Gayle
Gestede would be the ideal partner for Newcastle’s new signing Gayle, and he could forge a dangerous partnership with the former Crystal Palace front man. The Benin international has fantastic ability to hold the ball up under pressure, and could act as a foil for the speedy Gayle who loves to make runs in behind defenders.
In return, the Magpies could offer Papiss Cisse to Villa. He is a striker who is very similar to Gayle in the fact that he likes to play off the shoulder of the last defender, and could find his playing time limited at Newcastle next season.
Papiss Cisse would be the ideal candidate for a swap deal with Gestede
Cisse would perfectly suit Villa’s style with the amount of talented footballers they have in midfield and their tendency to play short incisive passes through the lines.
He has also proven himself as an accomplished goalscorer in the English game with 44 goals in 131(100 starts) appearances for Newcastle.
A swap deal involving the pair would benefit both clubs greatly.
