Middlesbrough enjoyed a fine 2015/16 campaign that culminated in their promotion to the Premier League.

Boro boss Aitor Karanka did a fine job in turning his side into one of the most organised in the league, while maintaining his philosophy of instilling a culture at the club where passing the football is a necessity.

The North East club will have to ensure that they make the acquisitions that will help them avoid any kind of relegation trouble, as the jump up from the Championship is a sizeable one in both quality and intensity.

Bentaleb could find his first-team opportunities limited this term

Boro have a midfield packed full of hard-working, Championship proven footballers, who will all put in a shift on any given day. Stewart Downing is the standout player from the bunch, but he often operates from wide areas, cutting inside to inflict damage.

Middlesbrough are in dire need of a footballing central midfielder who has vision, is comfortable in possession, and can transform defence into attack with incisive passing and they need look no further than Tottenham’s Benteleb.

Nabil Bentley would improve Middlesbrough tremendously

With the sheer quality at Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino’s disposal, it will be incredibly difficult for Bentaleb to force his way into the squad, never mind the first-team.

The 21-year-old Algerian international made only five Premier League appearances last term, and would benefit greatly from regular first-team football. A move to Boro would be perfect for both player and club, whether that be a temporary or permanent one.

Middlesbrough would be gaining a player with Premier League experience, who has proved he is capable of meeting the required standard to succeed in England’s top flight.

Would Boro manager Aitor Karanka consider a move for Bentaleb?

He is fully proficient in playing the deep-lying play-making role, and could sit in front of Boro’s back-four, providing a defensive shield for the defence and ammunition for their attack.

He has the ability to dictate games and govern the tempo at which they are played, and Middlesbrough would be the ideal place for him to establish himself once again, and kick-start his career should a move come to fruition.
