West Ham United have been linked with a selection of the world’s best strikers throughout the summer, including Lyon’s Alexandre Lacazette.
Lyon owner Jean-Michel Aulas
Lyon owner Jean-Michel Aulas has told French TV station SFR Sport that his club rejected a huge offer from West Ham for Alexandre Lacazette, reported via the Sun.
Hammers fans have had to endure much frustration throughout the summer transfer window, with the club’s failure to land a so-called marquee striker a key contributing factor to said frustration.
Although the club have tied up a deal to sign Juventus striker Simone Zaza on a season-long loan with an option to buy, the general consensus amongst West Ham fans was that the owners’ promises to bring in a world-class forward carried little weight, and was purely a tactic to sell season tickets.
Aulas has, however, given support to the West Ham owners, telling SFR Sport how his club turned down a monumental offer for Alexandre Lacazette from the East Londoners, reported via the Sun:
Alexandre Lacazette
“We rejected a bid from West Ham for £43m for Lacazette.”
West Ham have made a sluggish start to their Premier League campaign, although they have had to play two very tough away games against Chelsea and Manchester City.
It was their exit from the Europa League to Romanian minnows FC Astra, however, that caused so much angst amongst the Hammers fanbase.
West Ham manager Slaven Bilic
With Aulas’ admission of West Ham’s bid of £43 million though, the fans can at least be safe in the knowledge that the owners were truly trying to bring in one of the world’s best strikers, and that it wasn’t all just an elaborate ploy to sell tickets for the new stadium.
