Liverpool’s need for a top-class left-back is obvious, and Wolfsburg’s Ricardo Rodriguez would be the ideal signing.

Liverpool’s left-back woes have been plain for all to see since the turn of the year, with Alberto Moreno the Reds’ only senior option at the left side of defence.

Moreno’s performances have drawn heavy criticism of late, especially after his woeful showing in the Europa League final against Sevilla last season, and have led to many club legends calling for Jurgen Klopp to sign an established left-back.

The perfect signing for Liverpool would be Wolfsburg’s Ricardo Rodriguez.

The 23-year-old is an incredibly athletic full-back, and is equally proficient in attacking areas as he is in defensive ones.

He is on set-piece duties for both club and country, and his quality is highlighted by his tally of 41 international caps for Switzerland already despite his tender years.

Klopp expects his full-backs to have high stamina levels, and likes them to provide width in forward areas when in possession of the football.

With Nathaniel Clyne on the right and Rodriguez on the left, Liverpool would possess fantastic balance and symmetry, with both full-backs like-minded in their playing styles.

Rodriguez plays with an incredible intensity, and is aggressive in the way he presses the opposition when they are in possession. His style perfectly suits Klopp’s playing philosophy, and a move for the Swiss international should be seen as a priority from the Anfield hierarchy.

If a move for Rodriguez comes to fruition, Liverpool would be in a far stronger position to challenge for major honours this season.
