Celtic fans have taken to Twitter to react after the Bhoys posted a statement, in light of Nicola Sturgeon placing a limit on spectators due to COVID-19.

What’s the story?

Well, Celtic have called on the Scottish Professional Football League (SPFL) to bring forward the scheduled winter break on January 3rd.

The Hoops are keen to ensure that supporters do not miss more games after spending the entirety of last season behind closed doors.

Celtic are demanding a rescheduled timetable, so the winter break coincides with Sturgeon’s COVID-19 restrictions caused by the Omicron variant.

According to the Irish Times, the SPFL are currently in talks with Sky Sports about rescheduling the games.

Hibernian have echoed Celtic’s statement, also calling for the winter break to be brought forward.

Can Celtic navigate through the COVID-19 restrictions?

Sadly, it sounds like it’s all down to Sky Sports.

The Irish Times add that the broadcaster must agree to the changes, and have yet to comment on their position.

However, there is said to be concern within the league that there isn’t enough room in the calendar to reschedule games.

Some club executives are also unconvinced that stadiums will open back up after the initial three-week period of restrictions.

Ultimately, a lot needs to be done if Celtic’s wishes are to be granted.

Nevertheless, it’s great to see the Hoops sticking up for supporters and putting them first, as that hasn’t always been the case.

For now, let’s see what the Celtic fans on Twitter have been saying about the statement…
