Moussa Sissoko has thrown his Tottenham Hotspur future into some doubt.
Sissoko, a £30 million signing by Spurs in 2016, has another two-and-a-bit years left on his contract in North London.
The former Newcastle United star doesn’t seem as important to Tottenham now as he once was during Mauricio Pochettino’s reign.
Under Jose Mourinho this season, the 31-year-old has started 14 of the Lilywhites’ 23 Premier League games.
He has become something of a squad player this season following Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg’s arrival and Tanguy Ndombele’s re-emergence as a huge asset for Mourinho, who has gone back to playing Sissoko on the wing at times.
And speaking to Football London, the France international has given a very non-committal answer when asked about his future in North London, hinting that he has and continues to have other offers.
He said: “Am I going to stay here? I don’t know. My contract ends in 2023. I could tell you yes but we know things go very quickly in football.
“The external things, I let my agent deal with them. There have been calls from various clubs, but I remain focused on Tottenham.”
Has Sissoko been a good signing? Absolutely. He had a difficult first year under Pochettino but, once moved into midfield, he was exceptional for a couple of years.
But the reality is that he’ll be 32 by the time next season comes around and his influence is only going to wane, so if chairman Daniel Levy receives a good offer in the summer then maybe it’s time to move on.
