Everton fans have taken to Twitter to react after the club announced that Lucas Digne had signed a new five-year contract at Goodison Park.

The 34-cap France international signed due to the love he feels from the Toffees supporters, and also the ambition of the club according to the announcement.

Digne is arguably one of the best left-backs in Europe, so this is huge news for Carlo Ancelotti’s side.

The 27-year-old has registered six Premier League assists this season, more than any other defender has managed.

This statistic is all the more impressive as the ex-Barcelona man actually missed seven games, after damaging ankle ligaments in November.

Everton’s No.12 also recorded seven assists last term.

This was, again, more than any other Premier League defender managed.

A player like Digne could play for most clubs in the world, with Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City keen on him according to the Daily Mail.

However, it speaks volumes that a man who’s been at Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain feels comfortable enough to commit his long-term future to the club.

Digne clearly feels he has a good chance of more success at Goodison Park, after winning bundles of silverware in Spain and France.

Let’s see what the Everton fans on Twitter have been saying about the announcement…
