Former Leeds left-back Ian Harte has claimed via his official Twitter account that Charlie Taylor is the best player in his position in the Championship.

The 22-year-old has been heavily linked with a departure from Elland Road throughout the summer, with Liverpool, West Bromwich Albion and Middlesbrough the latest clubs reportedly interested in signing the left-back (Daily Star).

The former Republic of Ireland international took to Twitter to offer his opinion on Taylor’s quality, and was unreserved in his praise:

High praise indeed from one of the greatest left-backs in the West Yorkshire outfit’s history.

Taylor has been part of the Leeds senior squad since 2011, and despite spending four separate loan spells away from Elland Road, he has made 77 appearances for the club.

Harte is the agent of Leeds’ young understudy to Taylor – Tyler Denton, and he obviously feels that the 22-year-old staying at the club will be crucial to his client’s development.

With just under a week remaining until the transfer window closes, it is widely considered that Leeds will do well to hold on to their talented left-back, with the pedigree of some of the clubs reported to be interested in signing him.
