Nani left Manchester United in July 2015 and made the permanent switch to the Süper Lig.

Former Manchester United winger Nani has told The Sunday Times how manager Louis van Gaal treated the players like kids.

The Portuguese international, who currently plays for Fenerbahce, spoke disparagingly of the Dutchman in the recent interview, saying, “He and his assistant were shouting at players like we were kids, like 18-year-old.

“And I think this is not the way to treat us because I am professional, I am training every day, I’m doing nothing wrong, I’m putting quality in the training.”

Nani has impressed for his club this term, scoring nine goals and chipping in with five assists in 36 appearances but his time at Old Trafford saw superb performances interspersed with too many unconvincing outings.

He also commented on how van Gaal’s coaching is too robotic, not leaving much to the imagination:

“‘You must pass the ball like this, come on, blah, blah, blah. It’s crazy. It’s difficult to play football like that. Because football is instinct. If you see you must shoot, first touch. If you see you must take a touch, you take a touch.”

The former Bayern Munich and Barcelona manager has been on the receiving end of criticism from pundits and fans alike all season.

The pedestrian, defence-minded performances that United have churned out this season are a far cry from the glory days under former boss Sir Alex Ferguson.

In van Gaal’s defence, however, he does seem to have galvanised his squad and they are now back in contention for the final Champions League spot – something which is surely a minimum requirement for the Dutchman to keep his job beyond May.
