Everton midfielder Ross Barkley has spoken out after his omission from every single game of England’s Euro 2016 campaign, outlining his opinion that he should have been shown more trust in France when speaking exclusively to The Times and reported via Sky Sports.
The 22-year-old claims that he was devastated at not playing, after he believed his warm-up game performances proved what he was capable of:

“I’d played a lot in the qualifiers, scored as many as the midfielders there at the time and was devastated I didn’t get any game time. Roy could have shown more faith in me.”
Barkley has made an impressive start to the 2016/17 Premier League campaign, contributing a goal and an assist to the Toffees opening two games, and helping his side to four points from a possible six.
He went on to tell the Times how deflating it was for him to work so hard during training sessions with England yet not given the chance on match days, as quoted by Sky Sports:

“I was working my hardest – doing double sessions – but wasn’t playing. I felt I wasn’t important to the squad and that’s not a nice feeling.”
With England’s dismal performances, and their early exit from the competition to tournament minnows Iceland, it will be hard for anyone to disagree with the Everton man, and who knows what might have happened, had Barkely been given a more central role to the Three Lions’ campaign.
