Wolverhampton Wanderers fans will be hoping for promotion this season, and Everton’s Arouna Kone could be the ideal signing to help them achieve just that.
Wolverhampton Wanderers manager Walter Zenga
Wolves have made an impressive start to life under Walter Zenga, going unbeaten in their first four Championship games, with two wins and two draws leaving them sitting pretty in 3rd place in the table.
The Midlands outfit still require reinforcements in certain areas of the pitch, however, and Zenga’s forward-line is a particular area of concern, with a lack of established goal scorers amongst the ranks at the Molineux.
Arouna Kone celebrates scoring for Everton
An ideal signing for Wolves would be Everton’s experienced front-man Arouna Kone – if they could tempt him into moving down to the Championship.
The 32-year-old Ivory Coast international has plied his trade in English football for the past four-years, after his move to Wigan Athletic in August 2012.
He moved to Everton a year later, but failed to regularly nail down a first-team starting spot, and with the arrival of Ronald Koeman, it is unclear as to whether he will be given many opportunities to start for the Toffees.
Everton’s Arouna Kone in action
Kone can play anywhere along the front-line, and is equally competent at playing through the middle in the lone striker role as he is playing out wide left or right as part of a front three.
He is a fantastic dribbler and his ability to run at speed with the ball close to feet gives his side the potential to counter-attack with pace, which is a useful tool in England’s second tier.
The Everton striker’s contract is due to expire next summer, so if Wolves were to offer any kind of fee, the Merseyside outfit would surely consider selling the player, rather than losing him on a free next year.
Kone would certainly bring a level of experience and creative guile to the Wolves attack, and should a move come to fruition, his presence would be a huge boost to their hopes of promotion.
