New Arsenal signing and Switzerland international Granit Xhaka has revealed to German sports news outlet SPOX that he and his brother send the vast majority of their wages back to their parents each month.
Before the two brothers faced up against each other yesterday in Switzerland’s 1-0 win over Albania, in a heart-warming revelation, the Gunners star spoke to spox.com about how their wages are dispersed.
“We owe our parents everything, we want to give them something back today,” he said. “We give, each month our income from football, of course we have a separate account, but 80 percent of our income we send home.
“We are young, we are naive with money, money can go fast again. If anyone thinks he is something better, just because he has more money in his account… then he can very quickly fall on his face. The family is our greatest luxury.”
Xhaka looked impressive in Switzerland’s Euro 2016 victory yesterday and any Arsenal fan watching would surely have been excited at the prospect of the 23-year-old lining up in the famous red and white strip.

He certainly seems to have the potential to be the man who finally fills the void left by Patrick Vieira. The signing of Xhaka highlights the fact that after 11 years, Gunners manager Arsene Wenger has finally succumbed to the notion that you need a combative ball winner in the middle of the pitch if you are to succeed at the highest level.
His qualities on the pitch seem to be matched by his attitude away from the game and Xhaka’s words will surely restore some of the public’s ever diminishing faith in the modern day footballer.
