Arsenal have been rocked by some very bad news with regards to Gabriel Martinelli.

The Gunners confirmed on their official website yesterday evening that the 18-year-old striker wasn’t expected to return to first-team training until the end of the year.

Martinelli, a £6 million signing under Unai Emery last summer, has been a revelation for Arsenal this season, scoring 10 goals across all competitions – including a wonderful solo effort away to Chelsea in a Premier League game earlier this year.

But fans of the North London club won’t be seeing him for quite a while – and here’s how they reacted on Twitter:

This is really bad news for Arsenal and it makes it even more important that Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is retained.

The Gabon international has been linked with a move away from the Emirates Stadium, with his contract expiring next summer.

But with Martinelli out until 2021, Arsenal really can’t afford to not have him or Aubameyang for the first few months of next season.
