Aly Cissokho believes new Aston Villa manager Steve Bruce will need time to get his message across to his players, speaking to avfc.co.uk.

The former Hull manager took charge of his first game on Saturday at home to rivals Wolves, leaving with just a point despite taking the lead.

After spending most of the second half under the cosh, Bruce was arguably lucky to get away with a point from his first game, and Cissokho believes things will improve over time.

“He needs time,” Cissokho told avfc.co.uk.

“There’s always a difference with every manager. Every manager has different philosophies, different ways of seeing football.

“We have to make sure we do what he wants if we want to get points and move up the table.”

Bruce’s Villa debut got off to the perfect start when striker Jonathan Kodja converted a penalty in the 15th minute, but a penalty at the other end of the pitch would allow Wolves to get back into the game.

Helder Costa’s shot was blocked via the hand of Cissokho, who gave the referee no choice but to point to the spot. Having won the penalty, Costa stepped up to bring his team level in the 34th minute.

Bruce will no doubt be happy to get a point from a game they arguably should have lost, but it will be a quick turnaround for the new boss as they prepare to face Reading on Tuesday night.

The 55-year-old needs time to get the players to buy into how he wants to play, and with games coming thick and fast, that is going to be very tough for Bruce.
