Speaking on The Big Interview with Graham Hunter, Olivier Giroud has named former Arsenal man Laurent Koscielny as one of the toughest defenders he’s ever played against.

Giroud spent the majority of his career as Koscielny’s teammate at both Arsenal and for France, but at times, the pair had to face off against one another.

Indeed, when Giroud left Arsenal for Chelsea he had to face Koscielny for Arsenal, while he also had to play against him during his younger days in Ligue 1.

The striker has played against some of the best defenders of all time, but he says Koscielny was one player he always struggled to get the better of.

What’s been said?

Giroud was asked which defender was the toughest to play against, to which he replied:

“I believe it was always tough to play against Laurent Koscielny, especially because I trained with him every day at Arsenal. He knew me very well so it was a little bit easier for him,” Giroud said.

Should have won more

Giroud’s comments here just make us think that Arsenal should have won more during that period of time.

That team during Arsene Wenger’s final years was so talented. Giroud, Koscielny, Alexis Sanchez, Santi Cazorla and Mesut Ozil were all top talents, but unfortunately, they could never quite win a league title.

Koscielny was certainly one of the more underrated centre-backs in England during his time at Arsenal and the 36-year-old is still going strong at Bordeaux to this day.
