Roma goalscorer Tammy Abraham, who has been linked with a transfer to Aston Villa has said Reece James keeps telling him to return to Chelsea.

It was reported at the start of May that Unai Emery’s men are ‘confident’ about signing the £34 million (Mirror) man.

However, it seems Reece James has a plan to ensure Tammy Abraham plays in a Chelsea shirt again, thereby snubbing a transfer to Aston Villa.

Reece James has asked Tammy Abraham to re-join Chelsea

The highly-rated striker has had his fair share of highs and lows since leaving Stamford Bridge to play at the Stadio Olimpico.

While Abraham was undoubtedly one of Europe’s best strikers last season, his tally of eight goals in the Serie A reflects how poor he has been this campaign.

As Aston Villa are prepared to put that aside to wrap up a transfer for Tammy Abraham, it seems like Reece James is still hoping he re-joins Chelsea.

“I was ready to take a step forward in my career, I didn’t want to be considered a youngster or a player who had just come from the academy. It was time for me to spread my wings”, Abraham told Tuttomercatoweb.

“I still talk to so many Chelsea players, James always tells me to come back. We grew up together and have known each other for years – players like [Mason] Mount, [Declan] Rice and [Eddie] Nketiah.”

HITC View: A transfer to Aston Villa would make a lot more sense for him

With the sorry state of affairs that Chelsea find themselves in, Tammy Abraham should perhaps ignore Reece James’ advice and prioritize a transfer to Aston Villa instead, if he is indeed eyeing an exit.

The Blues clearly lack a plan in place to build a long-term project and have endured arguably the worst-ever season by a ‘Big Six’ club in Premier League history.

On the other hand, Unai Emery’s arrival has meant Villa are sitting in eighth place and are likely to only improve after he gets his first full pre-season and summer window under his belt.
