Ian Wright has told Emiliano Martinez that he will ‘always be one of us’ after he confirmed on Instagram that he is leaving Arsenal, with Lucas Torreira telling him ‘I will always miss you’.

Martinez has been at Arsenal for over 10 years and his journey in North London has now come to an emotional end as he searches for first-team football.

On Tuesday evening, Martinez sent a four-minute video to the Arsenal fans where he shared how tough his journey has been to eventually becoming their number one for a brief period.

He explained how ‘hard work’ pays off and how ‘grateful’ he is to be a part of their ‘family’ for 11 years.

That is where Wright wrote under the comments section to the 28-year-old: ‘We love you Emi. Always one of us’. Lucas Torreira also wrote a message in his native tongue which loosely translates to: ‘I will always miss you’.

It is a heartbreaking end for Martinez and the Arsenal fans because his journey to the top has been a tough one. From arriving at the Emirates as a youngster to lifting the FA Cup last month.

Of course, the Arsenal faithful would love him to stay, but during these past few months, he has shown that he is now capable of donning the gloves himself.

And with Arsenal’s regular man, Bernd Leno, returning from injury, it pushes him back, as number two, hence his decision leave.

Arsenal’s record transfer deals

  1. Nicolas Pepe

    £72 million

  2. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang

    £56 million

  3. Alexandre Lacazette

    £52 million

  4. Thomas Partey

    45 million

  5. Mesut Ozil

    £42 million

BBC Sport report that Martinez will be heading to Aston Villa and the club have agreed a £20 million fee for his services.

Villa were in action on Tuesday as they recorded a 3-1 win in the League Cup against Burton, with Orjan Nyland in goal and Jed Steer on the bench.

Nyland was dropped by Dean Smith towards the back end of last season for the now-departed Pepe Reina, with Steer recently returning from a long-term injury and Tom Heaton still recovering from the season-ending injury he suffered back in January.
