Tottenham Hotspur will block Harry Winks from leaving north London on loan during the January transfer window, according to The Sun, leaving some fans to react on social media.
Winks wants to depart Nuno Espirito Santo’s side temporarily in the winter market to get regular games under his belt. The Portuguese has only fielded the 25-year-old for an hour in the Premier League so far this season.
Nuno has also only started the midfielder in one of their seven games, and overlooked him in Spurs’ last three. Instead, favouring the England international for depth in Europe, with starting roles against Pacos de Ferreira twice and versus Mura.
Winks is reportedly willing to test himself abroad over the second half of the season in search of more regular action. Everton are also interested in loaning the £50k-a-week technician, with Oliver Skipp already ahead in Nuno’s pecking order.
But Tottenham are said to be willing put an end to Winks’ hopes of a mid-season loan transfer and block any moves away. Spurs still see the midfielder as a key part of their squad in a back-up capacity over multiple competitions. Especially if they progress in the Europa Conference League.
So, Winks may have to wait until the next summer transfer window before reassessing his situation at Tottenham. A situation only getting worse, after the arrival of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg last season pushed him down Jose Mourinho’s pecking order.
Winks started just nine of 15 Premier League appearances during the 2020/21 campaign, for a total of 860-minutes. A run that saw Gareth Southgate drop the Hemel Hempstead-born midfielder from the England set-up last year.

But while Tottenham will block Winks from leaving on loan in the January transfer window, some supporters disagree with that stance. That’s because they believe the midfielder is not good enough for where the club should be aiming to compete.
Additionally, some feel Tottenham will force Winks to stay in January as the transfer would raise problems for Nuno. That’s because the 10-cap Three Lions midfielder leaving would remove a homegrown player from their squad list.
