Steven Davis admits it is ‘always frustrating’ when injuries keep him from featuring in ‘big games’ after sitting out some of Rangers’ key recent fixtures, via quotes by BBC Sport.
The Northern Ireland captain has only held a bit-part role under Giovanni van Bronckhorst at Ibrox of late. He was often one of the first names on the teamsheet under former manager Steven Gerrard. But Davis has only played 265 minutes total in five games since November.

Of those outings, just two have also been Premiership fixtures after returning to the Gers’ treatment room within weeks. He has now not played in the Scottish top-flight since a five-minute cameo at home to Hearts on February 6 and last started on December 1 at Hibs.

His fitness issues have now kept Davis from featuring in 10 league games, plus two Scottish Cup ties and two Europa League fixtures since Van Bronckhorst took up the Rangers helm.
The 129-cap star – who scored for Northern Ireland at Luxembourg last Friday – was on the Gers’ bench at Celtic last month. He also took a seat in the dugout for both Europa League knockout round play-offs with Borussia Dortmund, but missed both legs of their last 16 tie.
Returning from injury to represent Northern Ireland, who face Hungary on Tuesday, could see Davis also re-enter Van Bronckhorst’s plans ahead of Rangers facing Celtic on Sunday. The Glasgow outfit then travel to Braga in the Europa League quarter-finals next Thursday.
Steven Davis admits it’s ‘always frustrating’ after missing ‘big’ Rangers games
Missing so many important games has disappointed Davis, especially after the Rangers ace sustained successive injuries in quick succession. Now, he hopes to build on his minutes for Northern Ireland in the March international break and get back playing regularly at Ibrox.
“It’s always frustrating,” Davis said. “I’ve missed out on some big games and just when I felt I was getting myself back to a good position, I’ve picked up another injury.

“It’s part and parcel of football. The good thing is they’ve been minor injuries, but it’s been two consecutively on the bounce.
“The key for me is to get back into a rhythm of training and, hopefully, get more game time on a regular basis, because that’s what my body has been used to.”
