Celtic legend David Provan has raved about Rangers star Steven Davis in The Scottish Sun.

Provan believes that Rangers midfielder Davis has been the best player in the Scottish Premiership this season.

The former Celtic star has recalled hearing about Davis when he was at Aston Villa.

Provan wrote in The Scottish Sun:.”I can remember sitting in David O’Leary’s Villa Park office where he and Roy Aitken raved about an emerging midfield teenager called Steven Davis.

“Seventeen years later that kid has 124 Northern Ireland caps and is an elder statesman of Steven Gerrard’s Rangers side.

“Proper players have the ability to make a difficult game look easy and Davis has always done that. If there’s a better candidate for Player of the Year, I haven’t seen him.”

Big player for Rangers

Davis is in his second spell at Rangers, having made a permanent move to the Ibrox club in the summer of 2019 after a loan spell from Southampton.

The 36-year-old is a senior figure in the current Rangers team and is a big player for Steven Gerrard’s side.

According to WhoScored, the Northern Ireland international midfielder has made 23 starts and six substitute appearances in the Scottish Premiership and has played seven times in the Europa League for Rangers so far this season.

Davis has played a big role in Rangers winning the Scottish Premiership already this season, and if the Gers are to go all in the Europa League as well, then he will have to be on top of his game in the coming weeks.
