In late June, 90min reported that Tottenham are interested in signing the £110,000-a-week (SalarySport) goalkeeper from Everton and asked about the availability of England international.

The report added that Tottenham’s plan was not to sign Pickford in this summer transfer window, but in the future.

Hugo Lloris is the number one goalkeeper at Tottenham at the moment, while Spurs signed Fraser Forster on a free transfer following his departure from Southampton.

Impressive performance v Liverpool

The 28-year-old was in action for Everton against Liverpool at Goodison Park in the Premier League this past weekend.

Pickford was superb between the posts and helped his side earn a goalless draw.

Criticism

Former Tottenham forward and BBC Sport pundit Garth Crooks was impressed by the performance of Pickford in the Merseyside derby.

Crooks has included Pickford in the Premier League BBC Team of the Week, but he has said that the goalkeeper always has a mistake in him.

The pundit wrote on BBC Sport: “It was a cracking Merseyside derby at the weekend. There were three fabulous saves by Pickford from Roberto Firmino and yet it was the stop from Darwin Nunez that had me applauding.

“Pickford looks in good form at the moment and he was outstanding against Liverpool but that’s when I start to get very nervous about his performances.

“If he can retain this level of consistency then Everton and England will benefit enormously. Sadly, however, I can’t help feeling there’s always a mistake in Pickford especially when he’s been playing well.”
