Dani Alves choosing PSG ahead of Man City actually gives Tottenham more power when it comes to negotiations for Kyle Walker.

In a surprising turn of events, Juventus right-back Dani Alves has left Manchester City red-faced by deciding to join Paris Saint-Germain ahead of them at the 11th hour.

Goal has reported that Alves has arrived in the French capital on a plane chartered by PSG and will undertake a medical before signing a two-year contract with the Ligue 1 giants.

Up until very recently it seemed that the Brazilian reuniting with his former Barcelona manager, Pep Guardiola, at the Etihad Stadium was inevitable and now the Premier League club will have to think of alternatives.

It almost certainly means that they will not want to miss out on long-term target Kyle Walker, with the Tottenham Hotspur defender another full-back option Guardiola wants after the departure of Bacary Sagna and Pablo Zabaleta this summer.

While on the face of it Alves joining PSG might seem like bad news for Spurs because City will now focus their attention on Walker, the Telegraph reported in June that the Manchester club wanted to sign both defenders in any case.

So what it actually means is that Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy will have more power when it comes to negotiating a potential deal for the England international, knowing that the buyers are now more desperate for recruitment at full-back.

Levy is famed for squeezing every last penny out of a sale and with Walker having only signed a new five-year contract in North London in September, Spurs hold all the cards and should be able to receive at least the £50m being quoted for the England international by the Daily Mail.
