The defender joined the Hammers on deadline day of the summer transfer window.

New West Ham United signing Alvaro Arbeloa has told the club’s official website they must target an improvement on last year this season.
The Spaniard joined the Hammers on deadline day after his release from Real Madrid this summer.
He is one of 10 new players to arrive at the London Stadium in the transfer window as manager Slaven Bilic has added extensively to his squad.

Their hope is to build on an impressive first season under Bilic last year and challenge for a top six place once more.
And when asked what the target should be, Arbeloa says their aim should be to improve on last year.
“I think we have to be a better team than last year and that is our target,” he told the club’s official website.
“We have a good squad and we have to fight every week to beat the other teams. Why can’t we finish in a better position than last year?”

It will certainly be interesting to see if West Ham can improve on their strong first season under Bilic this year.
They have added extensively this summer meaning the Croatian has multiple options in nearly every position on the park.
Much will likely rest on how successful Simone Zaza proves to be, with their lack of a 20-goal striker arguably what held them back from being more successful last season.
