Leeds United supporters are reacting to another impressive under-23-team showing for Joe Gelhardt.

Gelhardt scored his fourth goal in eight games for Mark Jackson’s side since his £900,000 move from Wigan Athletic in the summer transfer window, against Newcastle United on Friday.

The 18-year-old also assisted the first of Liam McCarron’s two goals as Leeds raced into a three-goal lead, enhancing his growing reputation among those of a Whites persuasion.

Newcastle would eventually come back to win 4-3, but the following Leeds fans have already made up their mind about Gelhardt – whom they believe is already better than one particular first-team squad member.

Despite having played 21 times for Wigan prior to his move, Gelhardt has yet to break into Marcelo Bielsa’s plans at Leeds.

Bielsa was asked about Gelhardt earlier this week, but was non-committal as to whether he could turn to the Liverpudlian in the near future.

Leeds were recently linked with a move for another Wigan talent, the midfielder Sean McGurk, who scored twice for the Latics Under-18s in the FA Youth Cup this week.
