Fabrizio Romano has shared a significant development regarding the future of Paul Mitchell which should excite Liverpool fans.

What’s the story?

Well – as you may have heard – Liverpool are on the hunt for a new Director of Football with Julian Ward set to depart at the end of the season.

Get French Football News revealed earlier this week that the Reds had held talks with Mitchell – currently working as Director of Football at Monaco – as they aim to find a replacement.

The 41-year-old is very highly rated, to say the least.

Mitchell signed the likes of Heung-min Son, Toby Alderweireld and Dele Alli during his time at Tottenham, while also finding gems such as Victor Wanyama and Sadio Mane for Southampton before following Mauricio Pochettino to N17.

Now, the Englishman has told French outlet Nice-Matin that he is leaving Monaco, with Romano claiming that Anfield is a potential destination.

Mitchell said: “I have spent a lot of time away from home and my loved ones in recent years. I feel that the mission I had, which was to rebuild the sports project, has been fulfilled.”

Liverpool likely to hire Paul Mitchell

In our view, we believe Mitchell will now be heading to Anfield.

Speaking to The Athletic in July 2022, Mitchell revealed he would like to return to the Premier League, saying: “I am from England and one day — I am still relatively a young man — I will go back to the Premier League and to friends and family back there as well.”

Now – after Ward resigned – a top job is vacant for him to step into, and with his superb track record, we see no reason why Liverpool won’t strongly pursue his services.

There is not currently a more attractive vacancy for Mitchell in England, so if he doesn’t end up at Liverpool this summer, we would be very surprised.
