Rangers interim boss Graeme Murty wants to reach the cup final, but what about winning it?

It can be the small details which showcase why some coaches are destined to be successful managers, and others are not.
So far it appears Graeme Murty falls into the latter category, with the Rangers interim boss already himself under pressure after failing to lift the club’s form.
Speaking at his press conference this week, Murty spoke about the team’s targets for the season – and instead of saying his aim was to win the Scottish Cup, he listed a target being simply reaching it.
Last season the Gers got to the final too, and were beaten by Hibernian.
This time around they are into the quarter-finals, where they face the league’s bottom side Hamilton this weekend at Ibrox.
Last season Rangers had big ambition, now they appear to be so crushed by Celtic that they are simply aiming for second place in all categories.
At this stage second in the league would be a solid enough achievement with Celtic running away with the title and Aberdeen currently in second, but in the cup, the Gers need to adjust their ambitions.
Aiming to simply reach the final makes Murty sound like a man who has already accepted his side cannot beat Celtic if the two teams meet.
What makes it more worrying is that he says these are targets too set by the players, suggesting a lack of belief within the squad.
If ever there was a crystallised example of why the Light Blues need fresh leadership this was it, and it would be no surprise if the brow beaten side collapsed against Hamilton this weekend.
