Lee Dixon has claimed that Virgil van Dijk looked ‘uncomfortable’ alongside Ibrahima Konate in Liverpool’s draw with Chelsea this evening.
Liverpool and the Blues played out a pulsating 2-2 draw at Stamford Bridge.
Neither defence came out of the game looking particularly well, given that it was an end-to-end match in which errors at the back were prominent.
Konate and Van Dijk didn’t look a cohesive unit and the big Dutchman could be seen barking orders at some of his teammates, particularly in the first half.
Dixon told NBC Sport: “Van Dijk doesn’t look comfortable alongside Konate I have to say. He’s already been moaning at players around him four or five times.”
Culpable?
Even though Van Dijk was ‘moaning’ – as Dixon put it – he himself was arguably culpable for the Christian Pulisic goal.
The USA international made it 2-2 on the stroke of half time and the Liverpool powerhouse was possibly too slow in getting across the turf.
This was one of those games where it looked impossible to even know which defenders played well.
There was simply too much going on – particularly during a frenetic opening 45 minutes – but Konate arguably played better than Van Dijk.
The former Leipzig stalwart looked that bit more composed than his defensive partner.
