Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Alphonse Areola has told the Daily Record that his side are more than confident of dispatching Celtic for a second time in the Champions League this season.

The 24-year-old goalkeeper is considered the French giants’ number one stopper, displacing German goalkeeper Kevin Trapp at the start of the season and making 18 appearances in all competitions.

He is expected to start against Brendan Rodgers’ side on Wednesday night at the Parc des Princes Stadium, as PSG look to finish above German champions Bayern Munich in Group B of the competition with two games to play.

Speaking to the Daily Record, Areola claimed that PSG should earn a comfortable win against Celtic but is wary of the Hoops looking to exact revenge after the French giants claimed all three points at Parkhead in September.

“It will be a worldwide surprise if we don’t beat Celtic at home but in football you can never be over confident,” Areola said.

“There are no easy matches and Celtic will be motivated by the 5-0 scoreline in Glasgow and will want to demonstrate they are at a higher level and show more in attack.

“Celtic would be expected to play a counter attacking game and our defensive line must have total concentration. But I believe PSG have enough to beat any opponent in Europe and that we are superior to lat season.”

Unai Emery’s side smashed Celtic in Glasgow last time around, earning a huge 5-0 win thanks to goals from Neymar, Kylian Mbappe, a brace from Edinson Cavani and a Mikael Lustig own goal.

PSG are yet to concede in Group B and have four wins from four, including a 3-0 win over Bayern Munich and Celtic must produce something special if they are to come away with anything from Paris.

The Hoops are in pole position to qualify for the Europa League by finishing third in the group, with Anderlecht on 0 points and Celtic on three. The two sides are set to play eachother in the final group game of the 2017-18 season.
