Celtic have a huge game against Rangers in the Scottish Cup on Sunday but it’s also a massive occasion for Odsonne Edouard.
As usual, the French striker has been linked with a move away from Celtic Park over the past six months but his form between now and the end of the campaign could well dictate what calibre of club is going to be in for him this summer.
Edouard has been linked with the likes of Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur in the not-too-distant past but 20 goals across all competitions this season might see him struggle to attract an elite English club.
Of course, 20 goals isn’t a bad return by any means, but he bagged 28 in all competitions last term and that was despite the season being cancelled with a couple of months to go.
Nevertheless, there’ll certainly be speculation again about a move down South or elsewhere in Europe between now and the end of the season.
And Scottish Sun journalist Derek McGregor has claimed to a Celtic Huddle podcast that it’s ‘almost certain’ the Lennoxtown side – who are losing Scott Brown and Peter Lawwell soon – are going to see another major figure at the club leave this summer.
He said: “I think he’s a couple of months away from leaving Celtic so now [against Rangers] is the optimum time for Edouard to deliver. If he’s wanting to have as good an option as possible to leave Celtic – and I think it’s almost certain he’s going to be sold – then these are the games he has to turn up and deliver in.”
Is it certain? Pretty much, yes.
If Edouard decides that he wants to quit Celtic then the Bhoys must sell this summer to avoid losing him for free 12 months down the line, when his contract expires.
