Liverpool and Manchester City played out a Premier League classic at Eastlands last week.
Jurgen Klopp’s side held their Premier League title rivals to a fascinating 2-2 draw at the Etihad.
And excellently for the neutral, both sides do it all again at Wembley on Saturday evening.
Liverpool take on Pep Guardiola’s outfit in an FA Cup semi-final tomorrow.
Both sides advanced into the semi-final of the Champions League in midweek, with the Reds beating Benfica and City squeezing past Atletico Madrid.
The Anfield club had a greater cushion from the first leg and therefore Klopp had the luxury of resting some big-name players like Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Fabinho in midweek, though the first two came on as substitutes.
City, however, only had a one-goal cushion and Guardiola had to name his strongest-possible XI away to Atleti.
Here’s what Merson predicted about tomorrow’s FA Cup clash, speaking to Sportskeeda: “City had a real hard game against Atletico Madrid, to be fair. They’ve had to travel this week, and it was a very physical game as well. Liverpool rested Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah, and Fabinho in the Champions League and are almost certain to score goals this weekend. Prediction: Manchester City 1-2 Liverpool.”
Is he right?
Well, he was last week.
Merson predicted a 2-2 draw between Liverpool and City last Sunday and therefore his claim here needs to be taken seriously.
And honestly, it does have some merit.
There’s no doubt that Liverpool have fresher players available and only time will tell how big of an advantage that is.
If Klopp’s side do win, they will meet either Chelsea or Crystal Palace in the final of the competition and move one step closer to a potential quadruple.
