During Manchester City’s title celebrations after winning the league in dramatic fashion on the final day of last season, Jack Grealish infamously said in a viral video that Riyad Mahrez “played like [Miguel] Almiron” after his poor showing in the 3-2 win against Aston Villa.
It seems as if the controversial remark made by the England international has come to bite him back, as the Paraguayan international is enjoying a sensational campaign, while the former continues to find his feet at the Etihad Stadium.
With an impressive 8 goals in the Premier League for the Newcastle talisman so far, no winger in the division has managed to outscore him this season.
On the contrary, Grealish, who has shown improvements in a City shirt this term has a mere one goal to his name in the league.
As Almiron was awarded the Premier League Player of the Month for October after scoring an impressive 7 goals last month, he revealed whether the million man’s words drove him to prove him wrong.
“No, I don’t think anything Jack [Grealish] said has got anything to do with the great form and performances we have been showing as a group of players”, he told Sky Sports.
“Jack’s a great player, first and foremost and I wish him all the best as I always do. But this success is down to work, more work and even more hard work.”
It’s safe to say that in the 2021/2022 season, the former Atlanta United wideman has been one of the outright best players.

So much so that many would go as far as to say that he pips the likes of Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka and Manchester City’s Phil Foden as the league’s standout winger.
While Jack Grealish’s words may well not be the secret behind his success, Miguel Almiron has most certainly put any doubts about his quality to bed.
