Rangers failed to challenge Celtic for the Scottish Premiership title last season, as Brendan Rodgers’s side won the championship without losing a single match.

Celtic are the favourites for the title yet again this season, but the Rangers fans will expect the team to at least give their Old Firm rivals a run for their money.

Manager Pedro Caixinha made a number of signings in the summer transfer window, as the Portuguese coach aimed to make his mark on the squad he inherited from Mark Warburton, who is now in charge of Nottingham Forest in the Championship this season.

Rangers have made a mixed start to the 2017-18 Scottish Premiership season. Their performances have been encouraging, but some results could have been better.

The Ibrox outfit are third in the league table at the moment with 11 points from six matches, just five points behind leaders and Old Firm rivals Celtic.

Former Rangers striker and manager Ally McCoist, 54, has given his take on whether the Gers will be able to challenge the Hoops for the Scottish Premiership title this season.

“My hearts says yes, my head says no,” McCoist told BT Sport when asked if Rangers can challenge Celtic for the Scottish Premiership title this season.

“You have got to call it as you see it. Celtic, I would say, are still the team to catch, they are the best team in the country by some margin, I would say.”
