Rangers legend Ally McCoist has urged the club to snap up free agent Jack Wilshere while speaking to talkSPORT.
West Ham United and Wilshere mutually terminated the Englishman’s contract this week, with the former Arsenal star releasing a statement saying he had been “fit for months” and “hoped to find a new club soon”.
Rangers are genuinely interested in signing Wilshere, according to talkSPORT. Gers boss Steven Gerrard knows him well having played alongside him for England all those years ago.
When asked whether his former side should sign Wilshere, the Gers legend had no doubts the Englishman would improve Rangers’ squad.
He said: “Oh yeah! He has just got to get back playing.
“He says he’s been fit for five or six months now, which is great news. I heard Joe Cole say he should go to America, and I get that – but I feel he’s still got too much to offer.
“I’d like to see him at Ibrox. I think he’s a terrific little football player. I think Rangers probably need a bit of steel in the middle of the park as well but, if you’ve got an opportunity to sign real quality like that, you can’t let that go by.”

Wilshere idolises Gerrard
It’s unclear whether Wilshere would be open to leaving England for Scotland but a call from the Rangers boss could do the trick.
Wilshere revealed in an interview with The Mirror in 2013 that he wanted to emulate Gerrard.
He said: “Steven is a great role model. He has also been the stand-out performer for England as well.
“He is a great role model for me. If I can get anywhere near as good as him and drive the team forward like he does, then I will be happy.”
If he can stay fit, Wilshere would be a quality signing for any team. The Englishman has the vision and creativity to unlock defences.
His experience in Europe could also play a key role in Rangers’ Europa League adventure this season.
