Rangers deservedly beat Scottish Premiership champions Celtic in Sunday’s Old Firm derby but Steven Gerrard still has plenty of work to do.

Ally McCoist has warned Rangers that they cannot afford to get carried away despite Sunday’s impressive Old Firm derby victory against Celtic, speaking on Alan Brazil’s Sports Breakfast on talkSPORT (13 May, 8am).
A Ryan Jack goal earned The Gers a deserved triumph over Celtic back in December and they backed that up with another outstanding performance against their bitter rivals at Ibrox this weekend, James Tavernier and Scott Arfield putting the champions to the sword.
And the fact that Steven Gerrard’s side have outfought and outplayed Celtic twice in a row at home has raised expectations about a more convincing title race next season.
McCoist, however, admits he spoke to former Rangers manager Walter Smith after the game and believes that the club must invest if they are to avoid another false dawn.
“I was on the phone to Walter last night. My big concern is Rangers think they are a lot nearer to Celtic than they potentially are and maybe take the eye of the ball,” McCoist said.

“It’s a big, big summer. Rangers need to go and get two or three players who will get into the starting line-up.”
Rangers have come on leaps and bounds under Gerrard but there are certainly some positions where added quality is required if Celtic’s eight-year reign at the top of the Scottish Premiership is to come to an end.
A new centre-half is a must while a left-back and a centre-forward, potentially to replace Alfredo Morelos, could also be a priority.
