Former Ibrox manager Ally McCoist has told The Scottish Sun that Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos can score 30 goals this season.

McCoist, who played for Rangers from 1983 until 1998 and managed the Ibrox club from 2011 until 2014, believes that Morelos needs to improve on his disciplinary record.

The 22-year-old striker has scored 14 goals in all competitions so far this season, but the Colombia international has also been shown nine yellow cards and two red cards, as reported by The Scottish Sun.

Former Rangers manager McCoist believes that Morelos can score 30 goals this season, but only if he improves his disciplinary record and does not miss games unnecessarily.

McCoist told The Scottish Sun: “Morelos has got goals in him. The Old Firm teams should have a 25-to-30-goal striker — and he has the talent to be that.

“But he obviously has to keep himself fit and stay on the pitch. Morelos picks up silly bookings through petulance, so if he can just get that out of his game…

“You get guys with different make-ups, ones who argue with referees, fall out with centre-halves and all the rest. But he is no good to himself or his team if he is not playing.

“If he can keep himself fit and stay away from suspensions, then there is absolutely no doubt he could get 25 or 30 goals this season.”

Quality striker

Morelos is one of the best strikers in the Scottish Premiership and is a very important figure in Steven Gerrard’s Rangers team.

The Colombian is banging in the goals for fun at the moment, but there is always the danger of the youngster getting needless yellow cards or red cards due to his temperament.
