Graeme Murty’s Glasgow Rangers need to sign four players in the summer transfer window to challenge Brendan Rodgers’s Celtic, says former Ibrox manager Ally McCoist.
Graeme Murty’s side have been unable to compete with Old Firm rivals Celtic for the league title this campaign and may have to settle for the runners-up spot in the table.
Rangers legend McCoist, who played for the Ibrox club in the 1980s and 1990s and managed the Gers from 2011 until 2014, has suggested that his former side can challenge the Bhoys if they make at least four new signings.
McCoist told The Daily Record: “Rangers will need, I would have thought, at least four players if they want to challenge Celtic for the title next year.”
Which positions need addressing?
Celtic have the best squad in Scotland, and have some quality players such as Moussa Dembele, Leigh Griffiths, Scott Sinclair and Scott Brown.
There are some wonderful players in the Rangers team, too, but it is clear that they do not have the quality or the depth in squad to match the Bhoys.
Alfredo Morelos is a brilliant striker, but the Colombian youngster has been inconsistent and could do with some strong competition.
Signing Jason Cummings on a permanent contract from Nottingham Forest in the summer transfer window would be a smart idea, and so would be looking at bringing in a quality centre-back, with Bruno Alves not being exactly great this season.
Rangers have a strong midfield and attacking unit. What is important is that players such as John Windass, Daniel Candeias and Ryan Jack are consistent throughout the season.
