Ally McCoist has stated that he feels ‘that ship has sailed’ in regards to him becoming Rangers manager again, as he told talkSPORT on Thursday morning.
It’s looking highly likely that Gerrard will leave his Rangers post and head down south to Aston Villa.
Perhaps, from Rangers fans’ perspective, they will be disappointed if they lose Gerrard, especially during the middle of the campaign.
But those in the Ibrox boardroom can’t feel sorry for themselves because they have to get a replacement in and maintain their top-of-the-table status.
McCoist has taken to the Rangers dugout before, during more difficult times when they dropped down the leagues.
He was asked whether he would go in again and he issued this response.
“Not a chance, I love my early mornings,” said McCoist. “However, you can’t turn your back on your love.
“I said yesterday that I sadly think that ship has sailed.”

Of course, Gerrard, as things stand, is still the Rangers manager.
And, in this crazy football world, anything can happen yet and he can still stay in Glasgow.
But, the Telegraph have reported that he is on the verge of returning to the Premier League and taking his first top-flight job in England.
It will be his toughest test yet, and one that will truly showcase where his coaching levels are at and whether or not he is the real deal.
