Ally McCoist believes there is ‘no chance’ that Mikel Arteta leaves Premier League leaders Arsenal in order to replace Carlo Ancelotti at Spanish giants Real Madrid.

Well, not this summer anyway.

Arteta’s Arsenal journey is only just beginning, after all. Here’s barely out of his own driveway. At the Emirates Stadium, the former Manchester City coach has constructed a side who – while still four points clear of his old employers at the top of the table – have only scratched the very surface of their potential.

Bukayo Saka, Martin Odegaard, Gabriel Martinelli, William Saliba, Aaron Ramsdale, Emile Smith Rowe, Jakub Kiwior and Fabio Vieira are all under the age of 24. This is an Arsenal side set up not only to compete in the present, but in the future too.

Could Mikel Arteta leave Arsenal for Real Madrid?

Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand raised doubts over Arteta’s future earlier this week.

“I heard something,” Ferdinand tells Vibe with Five. “I heard Real Madrid and, when they come knocking, your players will be coachless.

“Ancelotti, ‘Don Carlo’, the eyebrow, he might be off. And (I heard) that Arteta is looking to go to Real Madrid

“That’s the rumour on the streets. The streets are talking. I hope he stays.”

The streets may be ‘talking’. But what they are saying, according to McCoist, is a whole load of nonsense. Arteta, the ever-popular Rangers legend tells talkSPORT (20 April, 9am), is not going anywhere. Even if Los Blancos do come calling.

“No chance (Arteta leaves Arsenal). No,” McCoist retorts.

“I think he will stay for a few more seasons at least,” adds Gabby Agbonlahor; former Aston Villa captain and England international.

Arteta does, however, have just two years left on his Arsenal contract.

What’s more, Ancelotti’s second spell at the Santiago Bernabau appears to be coming to an end, Oliver Glasner, Julian Nagelsmann and former River Plate boss Marcelo Gallardo reportedly lined up as potential successor for the legendary Italian with the Cadbury advert eyebrow.
