Ally McCoist has given his reaction to Neal Maupay’s dig at Tottenham Hotspur midfielder James Maddison.

James Maddison had a mixed debut season at Tottenham Hotspur and the Englishman has been left out of Gareth Southgate’s final 26-man England squad for the European Championship in Germany.

The English attacking midfielder was among a number of key players to miss out on the final squad that will be going to Germany with Jack Grealish, Jarrad Branthwaite and Harry Maguire also omitted.

Following the midfielder’s omission from Southgate’s squad, Brentford forward Neal Maupay seemed to poke fun at the former Leicester City midfielder for missing out.

McCoist and Parker on Maupay’s antics

After scoring against Spurs this season, Maupay recreated Maddison’s goal celebration, which did not go down well with the Englishman.

The French forward posted a photo in front of a darts board with a smile on his face, seemingly imitating Maddison’s celebration.

Speaking on talkSPORT, Ally McCoist and former Arsenal star Ray Parlour were discussing the taunt from Maupay and believe it was not in good taste.

McCoist began by saying: “That’s poor, man. No? I mean, what is the period you give somebody? Is it 24 hours? There must be a period before you nail somebody.”

“Well, they have got a little bit of a history, them two,” Parlour replied. McCoist said: “I would give him 24 hours and then I would put the darts up. You can’t do it right away.”

“He has definetly taken the mickey if that’s what he has done.”

Maupay and Maddison’s feud set to continue

The feud between the pair really kicked off in earnest during Spurs’ 3-2 win over Brentford at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Maddison took umbrage with Maupay’s celebration during the game and the Spurs players then repeated the celebration when they scored during the game.

With this recent dig from Maupay, the encounters between Spurs and Brentford next season will certainly be an interesting affair.
