Reported signing Jermain Defoe and current striker Alfredo Morelos will be hoping to fire Rangers to the Scottish Premiership title.

Ally McCoist has worryingly claimed that Rangers ‘will received bids’ for star player Alfredo Morelos this month as reports suggest the club are close to signing Jermain Defoe.

Sky Sports claimed on Thursday that the 36-year-old Bournemouth striker has agreed terms with the Ibrox club and is set to join the Scottish Premiership side on an 18-month loan deal.

The Rangers faithful will be hoping both Defoe and Morelos are representing their club at the end of the January transfer window because it would boost their chances of winning the title.

Steven Gerrard, who is in his first managerial job, recently helped the club to a 1-0 win over Celtic as they are now level on points with their neighbours.

As Scotland takes a winter break, Rangers legend McCoist stated that the Defoe signing is a ‘boost for everyone’, but was concerned about Morelos’ future, as a result of his potential arrival.

“If he hits the ground running and starts scoring goals, let’s not forget Morelos as well because Morelos has put the ball in the back of the net so far this season,” McCoist told the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast show on talkSPORT.

“Whether that now opens the window for him [Morelos] to move, it will be interesting to see. I think Rangers will receive bids in the window for Morelos, who has been excellent. Certainly the Defoe signing, what a boost for everyone.”

Columbia striker Morelos has been in red-hot form for Rangers this season, playing 34 games in all competitions, scoring 20 goals and supplying 10 assists.

In the Scottish Premiership, he has found the back of the net on 12 occasions from his 19 matches, including scoring in seven consecutive matches between October and December.

Former England international Defoe would add much-needed experience and added quality to Rangers’ front line as they look to pip Celtic to the title.
