Ally McCoist has waxed-lyrical about how Celtic and Rangers have been performing in Europe this season.

The former Gers striker did, however, warn Neil Lennon’s men that their clash against Lazio tonight will be ‘very, very tough’.

Celtic, as mentioned, will play Lazio, whilst Steven Gerrard’s Rangers are going to welcome Portuguese giants Porto to Ibrox, as positive results will edge them closer to the knockout stages.

TalkSport pundit McCoist had positive words to say about both clubs as he thinks that the duo are ‘flying the flag’ for Scotland on the European stage.

“Celtic and Rangers have been a breath of fresh air,” McCoist told TalkSport, as quoted by The Daily Record. “Celtic got a great result against Lazio at home, now that’ll be very, very tough for them (in Rome)

“Rangers, I thought, were excellent in Porto and they’ve got a tough one at home. I think both teams are flying the flag, which is good to see – because we need a little bit of a boost, don’t we?”

Whilst results have been positive for Celtic and Rangers, this is where they enter a tricky period because dropped points here could prove to be costly.

If Rangers were to lose at home to Porto then they would lose second spot in Group G, but equally, they could end up being top by the end of the night.

As for the Scottish Premiership champions, they are sitting top of the tree in Group E, as three points could see them open up a seven-point lead on the third-placed side.
