Ryan Kent has been incredible for Ibrox side Glasgow Rangers.

Ryan Kent of Rangers scores during The Ladbrokes Scottish Premier League match between Celtic and Rangers at Celtic Park on March 31, 2019 in Glasgow, Scotland.

Ally McCoist has told The Record that Rangers are desperate to sign Ryan Kent, but does not believe that a permanent deal is possible at this stage.

Kent has been a revelation since joining Rangers on a season-long loan from Liverpool last summer.

The 22-year-old, who has six goals and four assists in 23 Premiership outings, was the Gers’ best player in the 2-1 defeat by Celtic last month.

The Echo have since reported that Liverpool would be looking for around £12 million to part with Kent on a permanent basis.

And Rangers legend McCoist reckons that the Ibrox side will be victimised by the loanee’s own form since moving to Glasgow, preventing a permanent deal.

He told The Record: “Since coming back from his injury lay-off he’s been terrific and for me he was the best player on the park against Celtic. I’d imagine if there’s any way Steven could keep him, he’d be desperate to do so.

“However, it looks like another loan deal is the only way it could happen. His performances might just have priced Rangers out the market for him.

“I might be wrong but I think Rangers’ best chance of keeping him would be a loan deal for next season.”

McCoist is right. Rangers won’t be able to afford what Kent would cost, but is a second loan probable? Well, it’s unlikely.

If Liverpool have the chance to offload him for an eight-figure fee this summer then that’ll be their priority – and unfortunately for the light Blues, there will be clubs willing to spend big on him.
