Rangers were held to a 0-0 draw away at Hibernian this evening.

Ally McCoist, the Rangers manager, issues instructions during the pre season friendly match between Derby County and Rangers at iPro Stadium on August 2, 2014 in Derby, England.

Rangers hero Ally McCoist has told BT Sport (19/12, 21:45) that he felt Rangers should have beaten Hibernian tonight.

The Gers travelled to Easter Road this evening to take on Hibs, having beaten Hamilton Academical 1-0 on Sunday afternoon to go top of the Scottish Premiership

Steven Gerrard’s men will have been keen to win tonight to keep top spot, but they endured a frustrating evening in Edinburgh.

Even with Hibs forced into an early change with goalkeeper Ofir Marciano substituted for Adam Bogdan, and the latter – who played with Gerrard at Liverpool – was in great form.

Bogdan kept Rangers at bay on a number of occasions, and striker Alfredo Morelos was left frustrated as he had eight shots on goal but wasn’t able to find the back of the net.

Having seen Hibs beat Celtic 2-0 on Sunday, a 0-0 draw isn’t a terrible result by any means, but it will feel like two points dropped after creating so many chances.

That’s the view of ex-Rangers manager and striker McCoist, who suggested that these are the game Rangers need to win in order to be real contenders for the title, and believes that the number of chances the Gers created was ‘quite incredible’, whilst adding that Ryan Jack was the man of the match with a superb display.

“It’s certainly two points dropped,” said McCoist. “Ryan Jack was man of the match, deservedly so, but also Hibs’ sub goalkeeper was sensational, he really was, he had a great case for man of the match also. There’s no doubt about though, in my opinion anyway, on chances created and in general play, Rangers should be walking away from here with three points.”

“These are the games that they have to win if they want to be serious title contenders and challengers. The fact of the matter is, from Rangers’ point of view, they’ve gone to the top of the league twice, and they’ve failed to score in their next game. It would have to be a concern, because the number of chances they created tonight was quite incredible,” he added.
