Ally McCoist has claimed that Rangers fans would ‘rip the walls down’ at Ibrox if the club sold Alfredo Morelos in January.

The Colombian marksman is on course to have his best ever season for the Gers, scoring 20 times across all competitions.

Morelos, who joined from HJK Helsinki in the summer of 2017, hit the 30-goal mark last term but, on this form, he could obliterate that record.

Rangers are likely to find themselves inundated with interest about the 23-year-old hitman in the January transfer window.

Steven Gerrard’s side are only behind Celtic on goal difference in the Scottish Premiership table after 11 games.

And Rangers legend McCoist claims that the supporters would be furious if they sold their prized asset in the winter while there’s a chance of ending the Hoops’ dominance on the domestic front.

He said on BT Sport: “Of course they need him this season. I mean, they would rip the walls down at Ibrox if they had the opportunity to win the league and he was sold this season.”

McCoist is right. Even if Rangers fetch £20 million for Morelos, which they will, selling in January would be unacceptable.

Celtic are only two titles away from winning 10 Premiership crowns on the spin, something that light Blue fans are dreading, and if the player who stands most chance of stopping that run is sold then, well, supporters will justifiably be livid.
