Ally McCoist has told Herald Scotland that Rangers are not yet ready to win the Scottish Premiership title.

Rangers are featuring in the Scottish Premiership this season after winning the Scottish Championship title with ease during the 2015-16 campaign.

The Gers are expected by many to compete with Old Firm rivals Celtic for the league title in the Scottish top fight this season.

Former Rangers striker and manager McCoist believes that Mark Warburton’s side are not in a position to win the league title.

The former Scotland international striker has stated that it will take two to three years for the Ibrox outfit to compete with Celtic for the Scottish Premiership title.

“They have been fine,” McCoist told Herald Scotland. “I was never of the opinion that Rangers were going to come in and set the place on fire and win the league by some considerable distance.

“The building process is still quietly in operation. I think it is still going to be two or three years. What we are seeing from Rangers at this moment is what I expected it to be.”

Rangers will return to action this weekend when they take on Old Firm rivals Celtic away from home in the Scottish Premiership.

The Bhoys will head into the match at Celtic Park on Saturday afternoon as favourites.

McCoist hopes that the Rangers players are able to cope with the atmosphere at Celtic Park on Saturday afternoon.

“The home support will be in the vast majority and hopefully the Rangers players will handle that okay,” McCoist told Herald Scotland.

Celtic are at the top of the Scottish Premiership table at the moment with nine points from three matches, a point clear of second-placed Rangers with a game in hand.
