Will Graeme Murty remain in charge of Ibrox club Glasgow Rangers next season?
Rangers chairman King said in a statement on the club’s official website this week that the Gers will make the best possible managerial appointment in the summer and also praised Murty.
Murty is in charge of the Ibrox club at the moment and will manage the team until the end of the season.
With Rangers playing Old Firm rivals Celtic at Hampden Park in the semi-finals of the Scottish Cup this weekend, the timing of King’s comments came as a surprise.
Rangers legend McCoist, who played for the Gers in the 1980s and the 1990s and managed the Ibrox club from 2011 until 2014, has given his take on King’s statement, saying that it does not give any indication that Murty will not be the Gers’ boss beyond the summer.
McCoist told BBC Sport: “If you read Dave’s statement, I don’t think there’s an awful lot wrong with it. Maybe the timing will have surprised a lot of people. But, from where I’m sitting, he hasn’t said who or who isn’t getting the job.
“He’s very aware of the fact that, in most people’s opinion, Graeme has done a very good job so far and would certainly come into the running longer-term to get the job.
“I think a lot of people have interpreted Dave as saying he isn’t getting the job, but I certainly haven’t taken that from reading the statement.”
Proving a point
Murty has done well as the Rangers manager, and he should be given credit for the way he stepped up since he was given the role.
A win against Old Firm rivals Celtic in the Scottish Cup semi-finals this weekend will certainly go a long way in Murty remaining in charge of Rangers next season.
