Sunderland recently parted company with Jack Ross.
The former Sunderland striker, who has been without a managerial role since his departure from Rangers in Scotland in 2014, suggested that Ross should have been kept in the role at the Stadium of Light.
McCoist also believes that the Sunderland managerial role is a “brilliant job”.
McCoist said on talkSPORT (8:45am, October 10, 2019): “It’s a brilliant job for somebody, a brilliant club.
“But how many managers have they had in the last 10 years? Jack Ross has been harshly treated, they have only lost two games this season.”
Harshly treated?
Sunderland are sixth in the League One table at the moment with 19 points from 11 matches, eight points behind leaders Ipswich Town and four points behind second-placed Wycombe Wanderers.
Although the Black Cats are very much in contention of automatic promotion to the Championship, there is no denying that they should be doing much better.
Sunderland were expected to finish in the top two of the League One table last season, but they ended up in the playoffs and lost in the final at Wembley Stadium in London under Ross.
Whoever takes over at the Black Cats will be expected to guide the team to automatic promotion to the Championship.
