Ibrox side Glasgow Rangers are set to appoint Steven Gerrard in the near future, and Ally McCoist admits it’s a gamble.

Ally McCoist has told the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast, which was broadcast on TalkSPORT on 4th May, that Steven Gerrard will bring a better quality of player to Glasgow Rangers.

The Ibrox side are set to appoint Gerrard later today, with Rangers offering the Liverpool legend his first chance in senior management.

The move, by McCoist’s own admission, is a big gamble – but ex-Gers striker claims that he is confident that Gerrard will be able to make an impact in the transfer window.

He said: “It’s a big gamble for everybody, for Steven Gerrard and the club. It won’t half put Scottish football on the map again.

“The one thing that he will do, because he’s such a powerful name, is that he will, without doubt, attract a better quality of player and potentially a player that other Rangers managers wouldn’t be able to get.”

Gerrard has already been linked with a move for Martin Skrtel in the Daily Record, and Rangers are set to be active in the upcoming transfer window.

There is a realisation around Ibrox that they must invest to have any chance of catching Celtic, and already excitement is high for who Gerrard could bring in.

Rangers have struggled under the guidance of Pedro Caixinha and Graeme Murty this season, and they have failed to threaten to put an end to Celtic’s dominance.

Gerrard is expected to sign a three year deal with the Gers later today (Daily Record), before he starts putting plans in place at Ibrox for next season.
