Rangers are closing in on the Scottish Premiership title under Steven Gerrard, having moved 19 points clear of Celtic.
The Gers beat their bitter rivals 1-0 on Saturday afternoon, meaning Rangers are racking up an almost unassailable lead at the top of the table.
That means Gerrard could be nearing a first trophy as Rangers boss, which would of course mark a huge moment for him in his managerial career.
Much has been made of Gerrard’s inability to win a trophy at Rangers, and that narrative was certainly aided by a shock Scottish League Cup defeat to St Mirren.
Winning the league would be huge though, and with Rangers also through to the knockout stages of the Europa League – when Celtic aren’t – Gerrard is doing a great job.
Many think that Gerrard will end up being Jurgen Klopp’s replacement as Liverpool boss, with the Rangers man obviously a legend back at Anfield.
Rangers legend and pundit Ally McCoist has now told The Scottish Sun that he thinks Gerrard’s dream is to manage Liverpool, and he will be flying once he wins his first trophy at Rangers – just like Klopp has at Liverpool.
McCoist added that he is sure that Liverpool want Gerrard to be their manager in the future, and feels that there is no better preparation than being Rangers boss.

“I’ve never asked Steven this, but most people would accept his natural progression would be to manage Liverpool one day,” said McCoist. “To achieve that he must be successful at Rangers, that means winning trophies. “The first trophy is always the hardest to win, but when they do, Gerrard will really be off and running. Klopp was given time to get it right at Liverpool and it took three seasons to win his first trophy, the Champions League success in 2019.”
“I’m sure many people see Steven as the eventual successor to Jurgen at Liverpool I’m also sure Liverpool and Steven would like to see that happen. But right now he isn’t going to get better experience in terms of a high-pressure, high-profile role than being the manager of Rangers,” he added.
