Ibrox side Glasgow Rangers are set to bring in both Allan McGregor and Scott Arfield, according to reports.

Rangers manger Ally McCoist during the Scottish Championship League Match between Rangers and Dumbarton, at Ibrox Stadium on August 23, 2014 Glasgow, Scotland.

Ally McCoist has told the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast Show, which was broadcast on TalkSPORT on 27th April, that Glasgow Rangers’ squad will be improved if they bring in Scott Arfield and Allan McGregor.

The Scottish Sun have suggested that Arfield and McGregor are both on Rangers’ wishlist, with deals edging closer to completion.

And McCoist feels that the pair will improve Rangers’ starting line-up, although he has suggested that Steven Gerrard is still going to need more funds to catch Celtic, if he takes the job.

Allan McGregor of Rangers celebrates after Maurice Edu scored during the Scottish Premier League match between Rangers and Celtic at Ibrox stadium on February 28, 2010 in Glasgow, Scotland.

McCoist said: “I definitely think they will better the squad, and will be better than the quality that is there at the moment but to take Rangers to the next level, which would be catching Celtic in the league, there’s no way they will do it unless the new managers gets more money.”

Gerrard has reportedly sanctioned the deals for Arfield and McGregor, as he comes closer to taking the manager’s job at Ibrox.

Scott Arfield of Burnley is tackled during the Premier League match between Burnley and Tottenham Hotspur at Turf Moor on December 23, 2017 in Burnley, England.

McGregor would likely come in to be Rangers’ number one next season, while Arfield would offer a lot of cover in their midfield positions.

Rangers are looking to close the gap on Celtic, after having to look up at their Glasgow rivals for too long.

The Bhoys are on course to win their seventh league title in a row, but Rangers’ board are hoping that the appointment of Gerrard could help turn the tide in their favour.
